Spiderwort is a low cost open source CO2 incubator for mammalian cell cultures. Andrew Pelling originally built his own Arduino powered incubator for from garbage because the commercial ones cost over $10,000. Now Andrew has teamed up with two other scientists from the University of Ottawa to offer a commercial version of his incubator. He has been using his incubator to grow ears made from human DNA on top on slices of McIntosh apples. This illustrates the potential for regenerative medicine.
