Benjamin Franklin came up with 13 virtues which he tracked daily. His system was elegant using only a single piece of paper per week. He would put a letter for each day of the week across the top row and have thirteen letters representing each virtue in the first column. Each day a black dot would be put in place for a virtue that he failed to properly uphold. Mr. Franklin could then review his week visually and see which virtues he needed to focus on for self improvement. Two books that go more into depth with this topic are Self Tracking and The Quantified Self.
