Apple is increasing its manufacturing footprint at TSMC’s Arizona fab. Alongside the A16 processor for iPhones, TSMC is now producing Apple’s Systems-in-Package (SiPs), believed to be the S9 chip for the Apple Watch. This move reflects a significant diversification of products at the U.S. facility, which is operating on TSMC’s N4 process technology.

Much doom and gloom was prognosticated when there was a production delay at TSMC Arizona due to worker shortage, but a delay is just that and the chips are still on their way.

“TSMC Arizona has picked up a second Apple product. In addition to the A16 processor for iPhones… the fab is now producing SiPs (Systems-in-Package) for the Apple Watch.

The facility is producing approximately 10,000 wafers per month for two leading companies: Apple and AMD (for their Ryzen 9000 series). There are discussions about making Nvidia’s Blackwell GPUs there as well. The next manufacturing phase is on track to double capacity despite some bottlenecks.
